This is a comprehensive Vanguard Endeavor HD review.
I have found this spotting scope extremely reliable in producing high-quality images in various light conditions. You can even see clear images during the day due to its built-in sunshield that eliminates glare when you use it in direct sunlight.
This scope is all about precise color rendition and virtually eradicates any color fringing. This is an entry-level scope for nature observers, hunters, long-range shooters, and even stargazers.
In the following review, I’ll discuss all the features, specifications, and sizes of this spotting scope.

Vanguard Endeavor HD Overview
The Vanguard HD spotting scope is the flagship long-distance ocular device for anyone looking for some extra details while looking at longer ranges.
No matter the light and weather conditions, the Vanguard spotting scopes are highly suitable for entry-level long-range shooting, hunting, nature observing, birding, and stargazing.
This Vanguard scope comes with extra-low dispersion glass that eliminates color fringing and focuses the colors on a single focal point. Therefore, your images will be extremely sharp and will have true colors. This is the feature that most wildlife and bird observers will cherish to identify different animal and bird species.
The Vanguard Endeavor HD spotting scope is made in Myanmar like all other scopes by the brand. However, Vanguard acquires finished lenses from Hoya, Japan, and uses them in all its scopes and ocular devices. Therefore, you can expect a lot of quality at an affordable price with a lifetime warranty backup.
This Vanguard spotting scope has all the features to comfortably compete with any spotting scope without costing you a fortune.
There are two sizes available in this Vanguard HD spotting scope, and you won’t get the exclusive size (100mm) for astronomy because Vanguard doesn’t make them.
The most popular size here is the Endeavor HD 82A because of its price and the specs you are getting.
In the following two sections of this review, we will discuss all the common features in all sizes. The later sections will reveal some specific features of each size.
The overall optical performance of the Vanguard Endeavor HD spotting scope is pretty impressive. It can reproduce true colors, and you won’t have to deal with any blurry edges or a dull output.
Glass and coatings
The Vanguard Endeavor HD scope features quality extra-low dispersion glass that the company acquired from Hoya, Japan. This glass is extremely clear and ensures high light transmission to produce better low-light images.
The lenses are fully multi-coated with anti-reflective compounds to ensure sharper images with brighter results in various conditions. This scope features a BaK4 roof prism system that clarifies the images and produces more accurate colors for an extraordinary viewing experience.
For clarity, with the crystal-clear images, this spotting scope can be used by hunters and long-range shooters to quickly acquire the target.
Image quality and clarity
When it comes to image quality and clarity, the Vanguard Endeavor spotting scope does a fine job due to its high-definition image results even in low light conditions.
The ED glass lens and phase-coated prism system of the Endeavor HD scope render true colors. It brings them to the same focal point, which means you won’t have to deal with any color fringing.
Images will remain sharp and clear at various ranges, and the scope doesn’t take much time to focus. With its high-quality ED glass, you can conveniently use your scope in low-light conditions.
Construction and quality
The Vanguard Endeavor scope is designed for the outdoors, and you can conveniently use it in any weather conditions. But as it’s a spotting scope, it will be heavy, and you will need a tripod or a window mount with it.
The Vanguard Endeavor HD spotting scope comes with a 15-45x zoom eyepiece included in your purchase. But you can go with high zoom eyepieces if you want more magnification power. A high zoom eyepiece is suitable for nature observations and hunting.
The Vanguard Endeavor spotter comes with an angles eyepiece, which is great for viewing with a smaller tripod. It is also great for not causing any neck strains as well.
Looking at a high plane will be much easier with this type of eyepiece, but you can’t view it at closer angles down below. So, it’s a better choice for lower vantage points and if you prefer to use your scope while standing.
The Vanguard Endeavor HD spotter uses screw-on eyepieces, so any of those astronomical 1.25-inch Snap-On eyepieces won’t work here.
Body and design
The Endeavor HD scope is meant to be used in all weather conditions. As it is a heavy scope, you need to use it with a tripod or a window mount for absolute clarity and performance.
Vanguard has used magnesium alloy in the construction of this scope to make it as lightweight as possible. So the materials don’t add to its weight. This magnesium alloy body ensures durability as well.
Moreover, Vanguard has nitrogen purged the scope, and O-ring sealed it to make its fog waterproof. Therefore, you can conveniently use it in different conditions no matter what.
The focus wheel of the Endeavor HD spotting scope works pretty smooth and has an ergonomic design. It means you can easily use it with one finger and even with your gloves on.
The focusing is pretty smooth. You won’t have to deal with any choppy magnifications at all. The scope makes sure that you don’t miss out on the action at all, even while you are zeroing in on your target. The focus dial is a present right near the eyepiece and is easily accessible too.
Endeavor HD model sizes
There are two sizes available in this model, and the most popular one is the larger size, the HD 82A, among all outdoor explorers and adventurers because of its value.
The following table provides you with an elaborated overview of all the sizes available in this model.
|HD 65A||HD 82A|
|Objective lens diameter||65 mm||82 mm|
|Eye relief||19 mm – 20 mm||19 mm – 20 mm|

Vanguard Endeavor HD 65A
The Vanguard Endeavor HD 65A spotting scope is an excellent distant ocular device for entry-level wildlife observers and birders. If you plan to take it on your first hunt or long-range shooting, you will find this scope pretty useful.
The Vanguard Endeavor HD 65A can produce quality images in any light conditions, and you won’t have to deal with any blurry images at all. You will need a tripod, or a window mount to use this scope because it’s heavy and not the best option for using on the go.
The Endeavor HD 65A does come with a long eye relief of up to 20mm, so you can comfortably use it with your spectacles on.
I have used the 65A for F-Class shooting to 500-yard line, and I was really impressed with the clear images. I’d say it’s not par Swarovski or Zeiss, but you generally get what you pay for with glass. It’s a great value for money.
Vanguard Endeavor HD 82A
The Vanguard Endeavor HD 82A spotting scope comes with a much bigger ED objective lens. It means the images are going to be even brighter in low-light conditions. Again you won’t have to deal with any color fringing at any magnification due to the fully multi-coated lenses and multi-coated BaK4 roof prism system.
However, the Vanguard Endeavor HD 82A allows you to view your target with more specific details and better clarity because of its large objective lens to gather more light from the surroundings.
You can pair this spotting scope with your binoculars, which is a great combo for long distant views. The reach of 82A is incredible, and the details you can pick out at a distance are bright and crystal clear throughout the zoom.
The Endeavor HD 82A does come with a high magnification but is more limited to the field of view. So it reveals more details on the target instead of providing you with information on the surroundings. Therefore, it’s a top choice for observing wildlife and stargazing rather than hunting.
This spotting scope is covered under a limited lifetime warranty like all other Vanguard products. This warranty covers all quality defects associated with the materials and workmanship of your ocular device.
However, it doesn’t include loss, theft, or any cosmetic damage or alterations, either intentional or unintentional, that hinder the device’s performance.
It’s a pretty good warranty, especially if you consider the price at which these ocular devices from Vanguard come. Here’s a link to Vanguard’s warranty page.
Upon close inspections and assessment of this spotting scope, the only issue I have found with it is that it doesn’t support the features that are good for quality astronomical observations.
You won’t get the right size for this purpose, and even the compatible eyepieces are not available. At best, it can help you with plenty of stargazing but nothing more than that.
Moreover, this model doesn’t feature a straight eyepiece; viewing at a higher vantage point at closer angles will be extremely difficult. Apart from that, this is probably the best spotting scope in this price range by far.
What’s in the box?
- Vanguard Endeavor HD spotting scope
- A carrying case
- A zoom eyepiece
- Vanguard limited lifetime warranty
This package includes pretty much everything that you need to use your spotting scope except a tripod or a window mount.
This is a powerful spotting scope that can’t be used without a tripod or a widow mount, so Vanguard should have included it in the purchase, and you wouldn’t have to buy it separately. That’s pretty much the only thing that I think is missing in this package.
Vanguard Endeavor HD user reviews
The Vanguard Endeavor HD scope’s average user rating is 4.6 stars, which is pretty impressive.
Most users loved how this scope performs well in low light conditions and reproduces quality colors with clarity and sharpness. Many people also talked about the versatility of this scope and how it can be used in various weather conditions.
However, there are some users who have complained that this model should have also come with a straight eyepiece as well to ensure better viewing at closer angles from higher vantage points.
I purchase this spotting scope for viewing targets at long range. I haven’t got to the range yet but I did view a sign 1200 yards away with no problems. I verified the range with a Sig Kilo. I think I’ll have no problem seeing targets at one mile with this. Notice I didn’t say bullet holes, just swinging steel targets.
If you don’t like the Vanguard HD spotting scope for some reason, here are some alternatives to consider.
Vortex Diamondback HD 20-60x85mm Spotting scope
The Vortex Diamondback HD spotting scope provides you with an option of straight and the angled eyepiece, and it significantly increases your viewing ability from different vantage points. It is also backed by an unlimited, lifetime warranty by Vortex to guarantee you peace of mind.
Nikon Prostaff 5 20-60x82mm Zoom Spotting Scope
The Nikon Prostaff 5 is also available in both angles and straight eyepiece versions and has a pretty smooth focus mechanism. This scope is better suited for you if you don’t wear spectacles because the scope comes with shorter eye relief.
Leupold SX-4 Pro Guide 20-60×85 Spotting Scope
The Leupold SX-4 spotting scope is a high-quality ocular device that comes with a lifetime warranty and delivers exceptional performance. It is available in both straight and angular versions and comes with all the top features that you will need to spot your target, whether on the land or in the skies.
I have found that the Vanguard Endeavor HD spotting scope is an excellent choice as an entry-level wildlife observer, hunter, or casual stargazer.
The scope can handle low-light conditions pretty well and delivers crisp images with true colors. The most popular size is the HD 82A because of its value with better optics at an affordable price with a lifetime warranty. You can purchase the Vanguard Endeavor HD spotting scope directly from the manufacturer, either in-store or online or from any of the authorized dealers located all across the US.
